Finally Started A Substack
I finally bit the bullet and started a Substack. Let me be clear — Alpha Beta Blog and Medium will be the main outlets for my content for the foreseeable future. But given that everyone and their uncle has a newsletter on Substack nowadays, it seems at least worth exploring.
Starting anew with zero following on a new platform is scary — one of the reasons I’ve been procrastinating for so long. Part of Medium’s stickiness is the way that it handles all the not fun parts of being a content creator for you, letting you focus on writing and thinking.
But sometimes I do worry about where this platform is headed and how much it truly values the effort and contributions of its creators and publications.
So to me, Substack is a hedge with optionality. In case this Medium thing doesn’t work out for me, maybe I’ll be able to parlay some of my success here into a modest following there. We will see.
I haven’t figured out how to split my content between here and my Substack yet. Given that literally nobody reads my Substack at the moment, it makes sense for me to continue publishing my best stuff here while I try to build something there. If anyone else has thoughts on how they’ve approach this, I’m all ears.
