Thanks for your response. That is a good and relevant question. And the short answer is that I don’t have evidence that points to H1-B engineers either as being representative or not. The fact that I focused on just the Bay Area may alleviate this somewhat as H1-B engineers are probably a greater percentage of all engineers in the Bay Area (but the age distribution of H1-B engineers might be different than that for the software engineer population as a whole even just within Silicon Valley). But yes, there are some risks (or at least things to check) before I would be comfortable generalizing it for all software engineers.
